Yer basic touristy coastal photos

Here's my collection of various sunset and coastal images. I visited all the lighthouses and bridges and vista points I could find. These images represent 5 days on the coast, from Astoria to Gold Beach.

beautiful photos andy. there's a reason that people take photos like these, just like there are reasons that people seek out nature in the first place.

James, living vicariously.

Wow. The sky is just so present. So animate. Amazing.

Don't stop.

hi James. So...what's the reason? So far it seems we either see new parts of ourselves, or lose a part of ourselves. To gain or to lose, we seek it out. To me it's starting to seem overly romantic, staged, and building a false memory that will be pleasing to me a few years from now.

I was scanning some Thoreau in regards to your questions, and he seems a little dated and slightly high-falutin'
I'm thinking that people seek nature in their own way as some sort of fundamental regression (past childhood) more like racial or ontological memory. Our roots are the woods and savannahs, our heritage. We constantly are touching base with our short term memories (PB and J, Transformers), so why not our remotist, profoundist?

James, yes, I can see that. A return to the wild is a return somehow to our genetic, biological heritage. But I find most of the wilderness to be dirty, dangerous, and very unpleasant. It's only the 'nice' wilderness that we like. I am starting to think it's more about scale.

I agree. It is scale and convenience. Again, back to why touristy places are possible, and the Grand Canyon is well visited. Because it is scalable, accessible, and (ultimately) leavable. Take your nature and run.
